Once considered an alternative treatment for sports injuries, Remedial massage has now proved itself to be beneficial for all types of complaints and conditions from muscular injuries through to headaches and stress.

The art of Remedial massage dates back to prehistoric times with origins in India , China , Japan , Greece and Rome . The word therapeutic comes from the Greek therapeutikos and is defined as 'of or relating to the treatment or cure of a disorder or disease'. The word massage also comes from the Greek masso meaning to knead.

Remedial Massage is a term describing a variety of techniques using the hands, mechanical or electrical apparatus to stimulate or soothe soft tissues of the body for therapeutic purposes. It works by kneading and stroking muscles to relax them, and uses friction to stimulate soft tissues. This therapy can increase blood lymph circulation while breaking up scar tissue between muscle fibers.

Remedial Massage is useful in many conditions in which body relaxation, the reduction of swelling, and muscle mobilization is desired. Therapeutic massage and its effects vary with each individual. A lubricating oil or powder is used to reduce friction during the circular stroking and compression of soft tissue. Massage enhances joint and muscle function, improves circulation, increases metabolism and promotes healing process.
